Highlights of the Sotheby's Australia April 23 Important Jewels Sale
Sotheby’s Australia will kick off their 2013 auction schedule with an Important Jewels sale in Sydney on April 23. A total of 193 lots valued at $2.1 to 2.9 million will be sold on the night including a number of spectacular diamonds and a range of desirable designer jewellery by the likes of Cartier, Tiffany and Co., David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, Graff, and Harry Winston.
One of the most desirable items in the sale is a diamond Serpent Ring (lot 160) by David Webb that was once owned by Barbra Streisand. Estimated to fetch $24,000-34,000, the elegant ring features two pear-shaped diamonds, one at each end of the two-headed snake.
The feature of the sale is a Harry Winston diamond ring featuring three internally flawless diamonds (estimate $215,000-255,000). Having sold a 20.15 carat diamond ring for $222,000 in September 2012, expectations will be high for the Harry Winston ring. Also featured in the sale is a beautiful Harry Winston Art Deco diamond bracelet circa 1930 with an estimate of $63,000- 73,000.
Anyone with a penchant for fine pearls will be tempted by the array of beautiful items of pearl jewellery in the sale. A beautiful Paspaley articulated collar (lot 156) with an estimate of $35,000 - $55,000 is the pick of the pearls followed closely by a wonderful South Sea pearl necklace (lot 150) estimated at $30,000 - $50,000.
Diamond lovers are spoilt for choice with numerous large diamonds on offer such as lot 139, an elegant pear-shaped 5.3 carat ring estimated to fetch $100,000 - $150,000. Other diamond highlights include lot 151, a diamond and onyx Cartier ring (estimate $75,000 - $100,000); lot 131, a Graff diamond necklace (estimate $75,000 - $100,000); lot 119, a breathtaking diamond suite by Cartier featuring 135 diamonds (estimate $100,000 - $150,000); and lot 124, a 5.05 carat fancy intense yellow diamond ring (estimate of $115,000 - $155,000).
