The announcement by Australia's Minister for the Arts, The Hon Tony Burke MP, that the Australian Government will contribute $1 million dollars towards the development of a new Australian Pavilion for the Venice Biennale is a significant show of support for Australian art. The new Pavilion has been designed by Australian architecture practice Denton Corker Marshall, led by architect John Denton who describes the design as s “a white box inside a black box, a completely free space for artists to do whatever they want.” It will be clad in South-Australian black granite and will have what Denton  “enigmatic character.”
