Filmmaker Anthony Lau Documents the Drama of the Woolmark Fashion Prize
Acclaimed Sydney filmmaker Anthony Lau has partnered with The Woolmark Company to produce a film documenting the journey of the regional winners of the 2013 International Woolmark Prize as they compete for the global award.
In “Reaching the Mark” Lau follows the progress of the eight fashion designers competing for the International Woolmark Prize as they prepare their collections for the London Fashion Week show, where the overall competition winner will be chosen.
To gain insight into the lives of the eight designers Lau travels to each of the their home countries to hear their stories, learn their history, discover their regional inspirations, and observe their ups and downs as they make magic with wool.
For his global fashion odyssey Lau travels to Japan where he connects with Takeshi Kitazawa and Emiko Sato of DRESSEDUNDRESSED, to Australia where he meets Dion Lee, to the USA to visit Sophie Theallet, to India where he encounters Pankaj & Nidhi, to China to see Ban Xiao Xue, and to Europe to visit the eventual competition winner Christian Wijnants.
As the London Fashion Week show gets ever closer and the finalists begin the last leg of their journey the film provides a revealing insight into the contestants’ final aspirations, anxieties, humour, and determination as they await the final announcement.
“Reaching the Mark” is a truly intimate insight into the passion and talent behind the glamour of fashion industry and a rare insight into the lives of some of the world’s most talented fashion designers. The film will premiere in Australia on 5 April 2013.
