For those Oscar Award nominees who didn’t walk away with a coveted statue, a holiday in Australia might just be the antidote to the runner-up blues. One of the gifts given to 2013 Oscar Award nominees as part of the traditional nominee “swag bag” is a trip to one of two amazing Australian resorts valued at US$12,000.  Australia is, of course, one of the best holiday destinations in the world – just ask Oprah or Ellen!

Those unlucky enough to walk away without a trophy but lucky enough to receive a US$45,000 goodie bag can choose to drown their sorrows at either the El Questro Wilderness park, an outback resort in the heart of Australia’s Kimberley region, or Lizard Island, a secluded luxury island retreat on the Great Barrier Reef.

Over 1 million acres in size, El Questro is located in Western Australia’s untamed Kimberley region and extends for approximately 80 kilometres into its heart, most of which has never been explored.  Activities include barramundi fishing, horse trekking, or exploring remote areas by helicopter that only a select few have ever seen.  Guest can choose to stay in five-star luxury or rough it in tented cabins nestled into the natural bushland.

Winner of the 2012 Australian Gourmet Traveller Travel Award for "Best Resort or Lodge" and consistently included in the Top 10 Hotels of the World list, the Lizard Island resort offers guests their own personal island retreat on the Great Barrier Reef.  Lizard Island is the northern most resort located directly on the Barrier Reef and features 40 luxurious suites.  Guests can indulge in a range of luxury experiences or relax on one of the island’s 24 powdery-white beaches.

Whether they choose to experience the amazing Australian outback or explore the beautiful Great Barrier Reef, the Oscars’ biggest losers are sure to feel much better after spending time holidaying in Australia.
