Kaldor Public Art Projects have announced that they will be working collaboratively with Sydney Dance Company and their Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela, to choreograph one of the unique artist performances for the major performance art exhibition “13 Rooms,” to be presented in Sydney from 11 until 21 April 2013.

Sydney Dance Company will work with Kaldor Public Art Projects on the choreography for the room being presented by esteemed artist duo Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla.  Sydney Dance Company Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela will collaborate with Allora and Calzadilla to create unique new choreography for their artwork “Revolving Door” which will be performed by Sydney Dance Company and a rotating cast of 40 local dancers throughout the 11-day exhibition.

In Allora and Calzadilla’s “Revolving Door,” a group of dancers spontaneously form a line that goes from one end of a wall to the other, blocking the path in a similar fashion to a human barricade. The choreographed sequence of movements performed by the dancers can be seen to be drawn from political protests and military marches to chorus lines.

“13 Rooms” is the most ambitious project in the 40-year history of Kaldor Public Art Projects and is curated by two of the world’s most respected museum directors, curators Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-director of London’s Serpentine Gallery, and Klaus Biesenbach, Director of MoMA PS1 in New York. For this groundbreaking exhibition, purpose-built rooms at Pier 2/3 will house 13 performative works by some of the world’s most celebrated and iconic artists, including Damien Hirst, Marina Abramović, John Baldessari, and Tino Sehgal, amongst others.
