Missed our key stories this week in Australia? BLOUIN ARTINFO brings you a quick recap:

Aboriginal Artist Christian Thompson Digs Oxford University

Oxford, England based Australian Indigenous contemporary artist Christian Thompson is a truly gifted individual.  Not only is he an internationally renowned artist, he is also a highly respected scholar. Australia day 2013 marked the opening of an exciting exhibition of Thompson’s work at the Oxford University’s Pitt Rivers Museum.

Discovered on YouTube: Australian Artists Enter "13 Rooms"

The “13 Rooms” exhibition being brought to Sydney by John Kaldor of Kaldor Public Art Projects is one of the most anticipated art events of recent years. Just as interesting as the concept itself is the story of how little-known collaborative duo Clark Beaumont came to be chosen as the 13th participant.

Australian Gallerist: Singapore Fair Could Trump Hong Kong

The general consensus regarding the 2013 edition of Art Stage Singapore is that the fair was a great success – much more so than the 2012 edition. Sales were strong and buying trends reflected the dominant presence of knowledgeable and discerning collectors and investors who were  interested in more than just big names.  All the Australian galleries that took part in Art Stage Singapore 2013 found success in one way or another.

Street Artist Anthony Lister Takes Urban Art World by Storm

He came, he tamed, he conquered. Australian street artist Anthony Lister has taken the urban art world by storm with his sophisticated, painterly interpretations of urban grunge imagery. The cosmopolitan confluence of a subversive street aesthetic and high-art draughtsmanship that permeates his extensive oeuvre ensured a seamless transition from the outside to the inside – one of the reasons he has been so successful.

Picturing New York at the Art Gallery of Western Australia

The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) had plenty to celebrate on Australia day with the launch of the exhibition “Picturing New York: Photographs from The Museum of Modern Art,” the second exhibition in their Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) series.
