Renowned independant Swiss watch brand Louis Moinet has released a limited edition chronograph to celebrate the 225th anniversary of Australia day on 26 January 2013. The Geograph: Australian Edition, limited to 30 pieces, pays tribute to icons of Australia including Captain James Cook, the Southern Cross, and the colours of the national flag.

The elegant yet robust two-pusher automatic chronograph with a second time zone features a red, white, and blue dial and a star-shaped small seconds hand, both of which evoke the Australian flag.  Another reference to the Australian flag is the six-star Southern Cross constellation engraved on the case back.

Featured on the reverse of the watch are engravings of a map and a sailing ship that pay tribute to nautical explorer Captain James Cook, the first European to extensively explore and chart the eastern coastline of Australia.

The launch of The Geograph: Australian Edition follows the recent release of the Treasures of the World: Australian Opal. This beautiful timepiece features an eye-catching Australian opal dial, carefully selected and expertly worked by Daniel Haas, a world specialist in the realm of semi-precious stone craftsmanship.

In each Treasures of the World piece, the natural beauty of the polished-stone dial is perfectly complemented by the mechanical majesty of a tourbillon escapement. Central hour and minute hands as well as hour markers are thrown into sharp relief by the striking stone-dial that surrounds the tourbillon at 6 o’clock and the open mainspring at 12 o’clock.
