Mclemoi Gallery director Sara Leonardi-Mcgrath and curator Kristia Moises sure know how to pick emerging international talent. American-based painter Diego Singh has experienced ongoing success in America after having been the subject of a solo exhibition at Sydney-based Mclemoi Gallery earlier this year.

While his work appears once again at Mclemoi in the current group exhibition “Shadows of Nation” alongside both Australian and international top and emerging artists,  Singh continues to develop his international profile with major shows in the US.

LA  gallery Various Small Fires held a solo show of Diegeo Singh’s work in October.  “Unimodern Gondolieri”, the first Los Angeles solo exhibition by Diego Singh, featured works from Singh’s denim series and captcha series – both of which were exhibited by Mclemoi Gallery in August.

New York-based artist Daniel Arsham, whose work also appears in “Shadows of Nation”, is another emerging talent with an ever-increasing international profile. Visitors to the recent Design Miami 2012 were welcomed by Arsham's Drift, a floating environment comprised of massive inflatable tubes, resembling a topographical landscape in suspension: an ascending mountain above and an excavated cavern below. Arsham was also selected to exhibit in the Video section of Art Basel Miami Beach 2012.

Mclemoi Gallery’s “Shadows of a Nation” is a curated group show with both Australian and international top and emerging artists. “Exemplifying a perspective from each artist of a nation in which they come from and/or live in, a cast shadow is placed which is eminent in their work. In this case the shadows are ones that are transparent to see and feel ethereal,” explains curator Kristia Moises.

Other artists in “Shadows of Nation” include Brett Whiteley, Rhonda Dee, Sidney Nolan, Charles Blackman. The exhibition is on show at Mclemoi Gallery until the 29th of December. For more information visit the Mclemoi Gallery website here
