RAWards is the biggest indie arts awards show in the world. Held annually, the 2.5 month competition and judging process selects nine winners out of all the Australian artists showcased on the RAW website. This the first RAWards to be held outside of the United States.

Announced as the 2012 winner of the visual art award, Brisbane-based artist Ellie Anderson is an artist and arts worker currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.

Anderson's studio practice uses illustration and printmaking to explore patterning, ornamentation, and the natural world using a graphic style. Drawing from travel experiences through North America, Europe, Asia and South America, her work represents pattern making, flora and fauna reminiscent of these diverse cultures. “The fuse between the internal patterning of my work, and the image in its entirety, transforms visual impression as it evolves from unified intimacy to diffused singular entities,” the artist explains in her artist's statement

Anderson will receive a fantastic prize package which includes placement in a group exhibition at Jugglers Art Space, 10,000 AvantCard postcards distributed throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast, as well as a feature article in Moustache Magazine and on Everguide.

RAW:natural born artists is an independent arts organization, for artists, by artists. Their mission is to provide independent artists within the first 10 years of their career with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity. RAW currently operates in 50 cities across the United States and launched in Brisbane, Queensland in June 2012.
