Top 10 Aussie Moments Immortalised With LEGO Figures
In celebration of the humble LEGO brick and its 50-year milestone in Australia, LEGO Australia invited the Australian public to choose ten memorable Aussie moments from the last 50 years to be recreated using LEGO Minifigures.
From unforgettable sporting milestones, iconic Aussie films and significant occasions, LEGO fans voted on their favourite moment from a selection of 25 landmark events, including Cathy Freeman’s momentous triumph at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the outcry over Steve Irwin’s attempt to feed a crocodile while cradling his baby son.
After almost 14,000 votes and with a top ten list in hand, esteemed British photographer Mike Stimpson spent three weeks recreating and photographing the top ten in a playful and fun way using LEGO minifigures.
“Creating historical moments with LEGO Minifigures is a great passion of mine, and I’ve had a lot of fun taking these moments that Aussies hold are so dear to them and turning them into fun and playful LEGO Minifigure versions,” Mike Stimpson said.
The top ten Aussie moments are currently being displayed online at LEGOfestival.com.au in the Creating History gallery which showcases the nation’s fondest nostalgic moments and ensures that they are now immortalised forever.
Creating History is the latest activation to be announced as part of this year’s LEGO Festival of Play, a series of digital, social and experiential events all paying homage to the humble LEGO brick and its 50-year milestone in Australia.
