Koller Auctions
Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri's "The two brothers Tjangala in Warlugulong"
:
by Nicholas Forrest
Published: November 13, 2012

The Geneva branch of Koller Auctions will offer for sale works from one of the world's most important collections of contemporary Aboriginal art on the 13th of November.

Sourced from The Arnaud Serval Collection, the auction includes a range of works by some of the most sought after Aboriginal artists including Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Rover Thomas and Ronnie Tjampitjinpa.

Developed in collaboration with Arnaud Serval's gallery L'espace d'art Carry On, the sale features 125 lots ranging from acrylics on canvas, to works in earth colours on tree bark, to sculptures and didgeridoos. With a collection of around 2000 works, Serval is one of the most long-standing and knowledgeable connoisseurs of Indigenous Australian art.

The highlights of the auction at Koller Geneva are Lot 722 and Lot 735. Lot 722 is the monumental masterpiece Tingari-Cyklus, Wilkinkarra Lake Mackay (210x348 cm) from 2007 by Ronnie Tjampitjinpa. This work represents Lake Mackay, which is also the birthplace of the Tjampitjinpas, and is estimated at CHF 60,000 to 80,000.

The other highlight is the Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri's The two brothers Tjangala in Warlugulong which is a wonderfully colourful painting from 1997 that is being sold with an estimate of CHF 90,000 to 120,000.
