The upcoming RM Sotheby's Monterey Auction to be held this month starting from August 24 will be featuring three Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The Mercedes-Benz vehicles from 1961, 1998, and 2017 highlight the progression in technology and approach to automotive engineering of the famous German automaker throughout the decades. The three different price ranges show how valuable certain past models have become and lay down some sort of precedent for current models that could one day be worth millions.
The 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR racecar is not only mesmerizing to the viewer but it also imbibes the larger-than-life attitude that the LeMans-inspired machine exudes. This model had only 25 vehicles ever made, and this sample with only 932 miles is car number nine. The RM Sotheby's estimates its value between $4.25 million and $5.25 million.
The 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster has been freshly restored and believed to only have seen 17,000 miles over the course of its life. Its price estimates around $1.5 million.
The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 "Laureus" is a modern Silver Arrow that was built by Mercedes-AMG to benefit the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which will receive the proceeds from the sale of this vehicle. This never-raced sample features a unique chromed paint job with a mirrored finish and 650 horsepower, which is higher than the regular GT3 model. The reason being that this is chassis number 50 and it was built to celebrate AMG's 50th anniversary. Its price estimate is between $400,000 to $600,000.
For more than 30 years, RM Sotheby's Monterey sale has been the pinnacle of the collector car auctions, known for its innovative presentation and record-setting results. The week culminates with the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where RM Sotheby's very own restoration team has won a remarkable six Best of Show honors.
In 2017, RM Sotheby's celebrated one of its most successful results to date in Monterey, generating nearly $133 million ($132,993,810) with an impressive 88 percent of all lots sold across the two-evening auction. The total was led by 32 individual million-dollar-plus results and numerous record-breaking prices, representing a 12 percent increase over the same sale in 2016.
Sotheby's Monterey will be taking place from August 24 to August 25, 2018 towards the end of Monterey Car Week.
