HdM Gallery is currently hosting a combined exhibition of the works of Elias Crespin and Zhao Zhao at its London Venue.

The exhibition showcases the works of two applauded contemporary artists — Chinese artist Zhao Zhao and Venezuelan-born Elias Crespin. The works have been displayed side by side, allowing them to interact, counteract, and create an alternative narrative.

Zhao Zhao’s installation ‘One Second’ is an experimental piece. Consisting of 100 works of pencil on paper, each piece is a memento for a transient moment in time — affected by mood, yet linked by the medium by which it is expressed. Alongside them are displayed works by Elias Crespin whose installations consist of ‘Circuconcéntricos Titan 60’ sculptures; metal elements supported by invisible nylon threads, the mesmerizing dance-like movement of which is choreographed by engines controlled by custom-made software. The hypnotic movements are reminiscent of respiration — his works brought to life through sophisticated technology. Through differing media, the works will interact to explore themes of movement, time, chaos and equilibrium. While Zhao Zhao’s works document the anarchy of fluctuating emotion, Crespin’s installations inspire sensation through carefully choreographed fluid movement,” says the gallery.

Born in Caracas in 1965, Elias Crespin first studied computer engineering in his native city before becoming an artist in 2002. In 2008, he moved to Paris where he now lives and works.

Zhao Zhao, born in Xinjiang in 1982, graduated from the Xinjiang Institute of Art in 2003 and later attended the Beijing Film Academy. He now lives and works in Beijing

Founded in Beijing by Hadrien de Montferrand in 2009, HdM Gallery is a contemporary and modern art gallery with a special focus on Chinese contemporary art. Since its inception, the gallery has hosted solo shows of established Chinese artists including He An, Zhao Zhao and Jiang Zhi. It also launched the careers of younger artists such as Lu Chao, Wang Yi and Zhu Rixin. To broaden its audience, the gallery has tried to form partnerships for their promotion abroad.  He An presented two solo shows at Galerie Daniel Templon in Paris and Brussels; Lu Chao’s work was the object of a solo show at Galerie Nathalie Obadia in 2016 and Wang Xiaoshuang exhibited his work at Galerie Diane de Polignac in October 2017.

The exhibition will be on view through August 13, 2018, at HdM Gallery, 42 Conduit Street, Mayfair, 0 London, UK.
