London is in for a special treat this Christmas as Horrible Histories, an educational entertainment franchise, brings the terrific tale of Christmas in the triumphant re-opening of Alexandra Palace Theatre (the iconic North London venue).
The producers behind the Olivier award nominated Gangsta Granny and the celebrated Horrible Histories stage shows — and Barmy Britain in the West End — are bringing this festive favourite to London for three weeks over the holiday period. Birmingham Stage Company and Derby Theatre are co-producers and presenters of “Horrible Christmas.”
“When Christmas comes under threat from a jolly man dressed in red, it’s up to one young boy to save the day – but can he save Christmas? From Victorian villains to Medieval monks, Puritan parties to Tudor treats, Horrible Histories take you on a hair-raising adventure through the history of Christmas in the company of Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII, St Nicholas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as they all join forces to save the festive season!” says the official release.
“Horrible Christmas” is full of jokes, songs and hysterical historical facts. “It is great entertainment for all the family from ages 5 to 105(106-year-olds may not like it),” the gallery adds.
Directed by Neal Foster (original director Phil Clark) and designed by Jackie Trousdale, its other technical hands include Matthew Scott as music director; lighting by Jason Taylor; sound by Tom Lishman and choreography by Rae Piper and Paul Chantry. The cast includes Chris Gunter, Neal Foster, Laura Dalgleish, Ashley Bowden and Erika Poole.
The play has received great reviews. “This is that rare gem of a family show that genuinely appeals to all ages from four-year old upwards. If you think you know about Christmas, this show will make you think again!” says Manchester Theatre Awards.
“An engaging, informative, and fun whistle-stop tour through the ages. The script is fast-moving and witty and the acting is first-rate!” says Birmingham Post. “This action-packed festive adventure is a romp from start to finish with a sensational script!” says Derby Telegraph.
Enjoy the hair-raising adventure through the history of the festive season and help save us all from a Horrible Christmas! It’s a celebration of Christmas in the most wonderful, wildly funny and moving way you’ll ever see!
The play will be on stage from December 13, 2018 through December 30, 2018 at Alexandra Palace Theatre, Alexandra Palace Way, London, N22 7BB.
