Written and directed by Kheiron, Les Mauvaises Herbes, meaning Bad Weeds is a slice of life film that follows the life of Wael, a former street child, now living in the suburbs of Paris committing small scams with his benefactor Monique, a retired woman who certainly holds much to him. The film features Kheiron, Catherine Deneuve, Andre Dussollier and Leila Boumedjane and Hakou Benosmane in pivotal roles.

Wael’s life takes a strange turn the day when one of Monique’s friend’s Victor on the former’s insistence, offers him a small volunteer job in his center that is meant for children excluded from the school system. Slowly but steadily Wael gets embroiled into a world that he had never imagined of. One fine day he finds himself responsible for a group of six teenagers expelled for absenteeism, impudence and carrying weapons illegally. What happens next forms the crux of the film.

Principal photography for the film took place between July 31 and September 15. This is the second feature film by actor-director Kheiron, after All Three of Us, which got nominated for the Cesar Award for Best First Feature Film in 2016.  Mauvaises herbes is now in the post production stage. Known for his impeccable comic timing Andre Dussollier has made quite a reputation for himself on the stand-up circuit. He once more plays the lead role and is this time flanked by the talented Catherine Deneuve, who was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress in 1993, a Special Prize at Cannes in 2008, The Silver Bear at Berlin in 2002, Volpi Cup at Venice in 1998, The Cesar Award for Best Actress in 1981 and 1993 and has been nominated a further 11 times in this category, including 'On My Way' in 2014, 'In the Courtyard' in 2015 and 'Standing Tall' in 2016. Currently she is working on the project Claire Darling. Andre Dussollier won the Cesar Award for Best Actor in 1988 and Best Supporting Actor in 1993 and 2002. Some of his recent popular movies are 'This Is Our Land' and 'The Great Game.'

Produced by Simon Istolainen for Paiva Films, Mauvaises herbes is being co-produced by M6 Films, StudioCanal , which will also distribute the film overseas and Mars Films which will handle the French distribution. The movie, which has been pre-purchased by Canal+, Cine+, M6 and W9, hits screens next year.

The preview is on November 21, 2018 at UGC Cine Cite, 166, Boulevard Macdonald, 75019 Paris
