The plays from the theatre series “Shakespeare In the Theater 2018” will be on stage at The Brick, New York.
“Using Shakespeare's text as our source material, while also pulling from notable adaptations of the work (Brecht, TS Elliot, etc) and adding our own contemporary pop-culture flair, we will stage a brand new retelling of this story. Our hope is to uplight the voices in the play that we don't hear a lot from – the working class; it could take place 10 years from now, or it could take place 10 minutes from now,” writes The Brick’s website.
In the series is “Dreamers Often Lie” that will be on stage from August 6, 2018 through August 15, 2018. “We are delighted to submit Romeo & Juliet, a joyful hour-long queer adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, reset in an immersive house-party atmosphere,” writes the website.
In line is also “Hamlet: What Dreams May Come” that will be on stage from August 17, 2018 through August 19, 2018. “Hamlet: What Dreams May Come is an original non-liner adaptation with 4 actors playing multiple roles,” writes the website. “King Lear” will be staged from August 7, 2018 through August 11, 2018.
“The Lady Walks” will be on stage from August 6, 2018 through August 15, 2018. “The Lady Walks is adapted and directed by Becca Silbert with original music by Cameron West,” writes the website.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be on stage from August 21, 2018 through August 27, 2018. Othello will on stage from August 14, 2018 through August 26, 2018. “A reverse race and reverse gender production of Othello,” the website added.
A Taste of Shakespeare will be on stage from August 13, 2018 through August, 25, 2018. “A Taste of Shakespeare is a tasting menu of Shakespeare's greatest love stories and romances,” the website writes.
Two Gentlemen of Verona will also be on stage from August 8, 2018 through August 16, 2018. “A whimsical exploration of a farcical plot. Explore the absurdity of Shakespeare's Two Gentleman of Verona's improbable lovers in an over the top Gilbert and Sullivan style romp,” writes the website.
