Just in time for summer, Mercedes-AMG has announced a new AMG GT S Roadster and the convertible hit the press, dressed in a sunny shade of yellow.
The convertible is the third version the automaker has in the segment and is being offered as a middle-of-the-road version compared with the other two. It is therefore being seen as a model that will appeal to those who are not happy with the entry-level version in the segment — the Mercedes-AMG GT.
When the AMG GT S Roadster hit the news, its color immediately drew eyeballs but below the hood it was the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that made auto enthusiasts take notice. Delivering 494 pound-feet of torque and 515 horsepower, the convertible is ideal for those who want a bit more power than what is offered by the AMG GT Roadster, which has an output of 469 horsepower while pound-feet of torque is pegged at 465.
Coming to looks, the AMG GT S Roadster lays stress on its convertible design and features a fabric top with power folding. Also onboard is an AIRSCARF heating system which keeps the occupants head and neck areas heated, while ventilation on the seats ensures they remain cool especially when the top is folded down on hot days. Other important features include upholstery in Nappa leather that is optional and the wheels, tires and brakes are similar to those on the Roadster GT C.
