Tiancheng International will host “Voyage Along Nippon — A Selling Exhibition of Japanese Contemporary Art,” from May 30 through June 2, 2018 concurrently with the Preview of the Jewelry and Jadeite Spring Auction. The exhibition will feature around 20 masterpieces by Japanese contemporary artists such as Kineta Kunimatsu, Yokoyama Shinri, and Kaori Someya. The works would be available for immediate purchase at the exhibition.

Wang Jie, Managing Director of Tiancheng International, says: “In response to the strong demand for contemporary art in the current market, we have curated this Japanese contemporary art selling exhibition in parallel with our Spring Auction. We cordially invite connoisseurs to explore a different realm of collecting and be transported by the exquisite hues of Japanese contemporary art. The exhibition is truly not to be missed, as every piece is handpicked, giving the show its richness and diversity.”

“The Japanese contemporary art is considered to be simple and free-spirited in comparison to European or American contemporary art. The political background, economic situation, and societal norms are reflective on the art and aesthetics of a particular place. Japan is currently going through a period of peace; it has not been involved in wars in recent decades and has moved on from the frivolity of the asset price bubble period. With the peace in mind, far from choosing onerous themes such as war and race like their predecessors, contemporary artists in Japan seem worlds apart from the complications happening around the globe. That is precisely why their works are free from any constraints and can most authentically depict their world views,” writes the auction house.

Founded in January 2011, Tiancheng International is an auction house led by a visionary management group and an illustrious team of experts with extensive experience in the international auction business. With a solid understanding of the cultural requirements of clients and a broad vision of the art world, the team aims to explore new frontiers in the Asian auction market. With its head office in Hong Kong, Tiancheng International also has branch offices in Shanghai and Taiwan.

“Voyage Along Nippon - A Selling Exhibition of Japanese Contemporary Art” will be on view from May 30 through June 2, 2018 at Tiancheng International, 30/F, Bank of China Tower, 1 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong.
