Recently concluded Met Gala 2018 created waves, like every year, with celebrites from Hollywood, music, sports, and fashion making red carpet appearance. What kept a layman and the uninitiated wondering were those eccentric headgears, metallic costumes and shimmers these celebs adorned.

On May 7, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City saw stars strutting down the red carpet in their fineries. The theme at 70th anniversary of the Met Gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic imagination,” and all celebrities had picked their gowns and ensembles with utmost care to match the theme. Vogue rightly terms the Gala ‘a pinnacle of iconic style.’

This year, Amal Clooney, who was seen in Richard Quinn and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, co-hosted the show with Donatella Versace and Rihanna. Though Clooney was hosting the Gala for the first time, it made little difference to Rihanna fans who could not take their eyes off her. She made heads turn as she appeared in custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano teamed with Christian Louboutin shoes and accessorised the look with Maria Tash, Cartier and Konstantino jewelry. We did not fail to notice the custom Judith Leiber Couture clutch that she flaunted.

Diane Kruger was seen sashaying down the red carpet in Prabal Gurung. Her Philip Treacy -Tasaki headpiece made her look no less than a princess. Sasha Lane flaunted her ivory Tory Burch outfit and Tamara Mellon shoes. Her headgear and hairdo did all the talking for her. We went crazy spotting Migos in Versace. SZA carried an outstanding headgear that made the powder pink Versace gown appear resplendent.

People were divided over Lena Waithe’s outfit. She wore Carolina Hererra. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stood tall in custom Ralph Lauren outfit. Kate Moss kept it simple by wearing Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and her Jimmy Choo shoes appeared minimalistic. Rita Ora though donned a black Prada gown but it was her black headgear that made her look worth a million dollar.

The Quantico star, Priyanka Chopra looked like Greek Goddess in Ralph Lauren gown. Kim Kardashian West shimmered and gleamed with pride in Versace and Lorraine. Bulgari brand ambassador Lily Aldridge remained loyal to her commitments and made her presence felt donning Bulgari jewellery. Models Joan Smalls, Winnie Harlow along with the brand’s digital ambassador Jasmine Sanders too chose Bulgari jewelry for the occasion. Jourdan Dunn, actor Chadwick Boseman and brand ambassador Laura Harrier completed the list of stars who wore jewelry from Bulgari for one of fashion’s biggest nights. There were many other head turners who let their queer, crazy and befitting fashion sense stand out in the crowd.

Amidst all the red carpet buzz, the main event had approximately 180 pieces displayed at the exhibition. The focus of the Gala was also the “dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art.” Reportedly, many designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Jeremy Scott, Christopher Kane, and Jean Paul Gaultier have been inspired by the religion to create their designs.  As per Harpers Bazar, Chanel, Valentino and Versace have also confirmed the featuring.
