The city of Hong Kong is hosting a number of art shows this week, featuring artists such as Liang Ban, Nabil Nahas, Alex Pragar, Izumi Kato, and many others. Blouin Artinfo picks the must-see exhibitions:

“Diary of a Pioneer” at de Sarthe Gallery

Running through March 17, 2018

De Sarthe Gallery displays Liang Ban’s (b. 1985, Guangxi, China) first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The exhibition questions a conventional understanding of culture in which civilization and nature are completely opposed. With surrealist and humorous undertones, Liang Ban argues our idealized notion of a civilization constantly in progress.

Clare Woods: Rehumanised” at Simon Lee Gallery

Running through March 17, 2018

For the first time in Asia, Simon Lee gallery presents new works by London-based Clare Woods (b. 1972, Southampton). For more than 15 years Woods’s painting has been an exploration of physical form. The exhibition presents a shift in her technique and subject matter, both in the use of oil paint from enamel, and with the traces of human form.

Nabil Nahas at Ben Brown Fine Arts

Running through March 17, 2018

Ben Brown Fine Arts presents the second solo exhibition of the Lebanese artist Nabil Nahas (b. 1949). The exhibition will feature recent works from the artist’s series of biomorphic, marine-inspired imagery created through textural layers of magnificent color.

Alex Prager at Lehmann Maupin

Running through March 17, 2018

This exhibition presents artworks by Los Angeles-based artist Alex Prager (b. 1979, Los Angeles). The artist returns to Hong Kong with her signature style of theatrical and meticulously staged photography and film, as well as her first exhibited sculpture.

“Magnus Plessen: Mess Dress Mess Undress” at White Cube

Running through March 17, 2018

This exhibition presents new paintings, drawings and collages by German artist Magnus Plessen (b. 1967, Hamburg, Germany). This is the artist’s first exhibition in Hong Kong and features works from his series “1914,” which has been four years in the making and draws on the themes of life, death and redemption.
