Tom Dixon’s much-awaited Delaktig bed has been recently launched in IKEA stores across Europe. The modular bed, branded as “living platform” by Dixon, can be customized for different functions as it comes with series of add-ons or “hacks” that help in repurposing the furniture. These “hacks” — including coffee and side tables, lamps, soft furnishings, and magazine rack — allow the piece to be used as a single bed, a chaise longue, a three-seater sofa, and even as a twin bed, a four-poster bed, or a bunk bed.
“So, this is the plan — you can go to IKEA and you can buy yourself a bed. It’s an affordable bed. If you want, you can add components to make it into a sofa. Once you've got this bed sofa you can add on our hacks, other people's hacks, or you can hack it yourself,” said Dixon in an interview.
The frame and the hacks of the Delaktig bed are of extruded raw aluminum, which makes the furniture “robust enough to last a lifetime,” noted Dezeen.
