Closing next month is a survey of significant Russian artwork at the Kunstmuseum Basel. The museum is hosting the exhibition to focus mostly of Russian artists connected by their place in the history of art. Titled ““Russen Fokus Sammlung Im Obersteg,” the exhibition closes on March 4, 2018.
The show features works by Russian artists and focuses on the collection in the Obersteg. It also refers to letter documents to an exhibition which had the same title planned by the Basler Kunsthalle in the year 1932/33. The installation unites Russian artists with their roots as all of them travelled to the West and were planned by Karl Im Obersteg to feature in the Russian exhibition of 1932. On display are paintings, drawings, and graphics. The highlight of “Russen Fokus Sammlung Im Obersteg” is Alexej von Jawlensky’s extensive group of works. These are presented with a larger number of paintings and letters for the then planned show. Other significant works by artists such as Marianne von Werefkin and Wassily Kandinsky are also part of the exhibit.
“Russen Fokus Sammlung Im Obersteg” runs from September 5, 2017, through March 4, 2018, at Kunstmuseum Basel | Hauptbau, St. Alban-Graben 16, 4051 Basel, Switzerland.
