The 47th annual festival celebrating pumpkins and art is here at Half Moon Bay, California, which is also known as the World Pumpkin Capital.
The long-running festival got its present name, Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival, some years back. For pumpkin lovers, it is the perfect occasion to celebrate the great gourd, with pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin churros, and even chicken pumpkin sausages. Celebrated on the onset of autumn, one can have a lot of fun at the festival in between the bites. Here are all the details you want to know about this year’s festival.
The 47th festival will run from October 14 through October 15, 2017 along Main Street, between Mill and Spruce streets, in Half Moon Bay, California. Admission is free for all, though pets are not allowed. One of the most interesting parts of the event is the Weigh-in. Last year's record is a 1,910-pound pumpkin. The sponsors, Safeway, have beefed up this year’s prize money to $7 a pound.
Besides the above-mentioned cheesecakes, sausages, and churros, booths will be set up along Main Street to sell pumpkin bread, smoothies, cookies, ice creams, fudges, curries, soups, and more. For beverages, one can try pumpkin ale, pumpkin soda, or pumpkin-tinis. Half Moon Bay High School’s varsity basketball team will serve pumpkin pancakes from 7AM to 11AM on Sunday at Mac Dutra Park. A whopping 275 artists and craftspeople will sell everything from glass pumpkins to hand-woven clothing. Rock, jazz, salsa, folk, and more will be performed on four stages. From 3PM to 5PM daily, “Smashing Pumpkins: Battle of the Bands” will feature local talent.
